I’ve been “playing” with Spotify recently. The way they sort the music with their “Genres & Moods” is perfect for me. I am satisfied with the playlists under varies Genres. Anyway, inspired by the “The New Classical” playlist, I googled contemporary classical music composers and learned about John Cage and his prepared piano. He started composing in 1951.

The Prepared Piano, is a classical piano which sound altered by placing rubber, metal screws and plastic on its strings. The altered sound is really interesting. I mean to imagine playing that “sound” with a grand piano. Well, nowadays we have digital piano to play varies sound digitally, but imagine back then in the 50s, it must be mind blowing.

The Prepared Piano actually reminds me of something I did to my old upright piano I used to have when I was a teen. The 3rd lower B was broken. The technician said it can’t be fixed but I just couldn’t stand a missing note! Then one summer, under the chilled air conditioner, there, I duct-taped a small tissue paper ball to the hammer. Well, it was not as good as new, it created a unclear vibration. But there you go, the technician said he couldn’t fix it, but I did, until today I’m still PROUD of it.

I’m always in love with Orchestral music ;) been watching videos from Philharmonia Orchestra (London, UK). In this video, David Corkhill introduced the percussion section so well. ;D

Gonna stick with FL Studio!

So what did I do last weekend? Didn’t really composed anything, but I got to learn a lot about DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), and a whole bunch of audio stuff I’ve never heard of - VST, Plug-ins, Sequencers, etc.

Just made a new composer friend Evan Pattison from my Portuguese class. He had been composing since 7 years old, and released an album - Neptune last year. His music focus on video games, which me too! I have so much to learn and discuss with him. What a pleasure, I’m so excited! ;)

Found a great youtube channel VirtualMusicTutorial, the owner of the channel, Lars Eichstaedt, super nice and helpful. He had been answering my doubts in the last few days on his facebook page. His channel teaches how to make virtual instruments sounds realistic and “alive”. The facebook page is starting to grow and have a healthy community.

After 10 years of piano learning and 20 years of piano playing (well, in the pass 10 years, I only managed to play once in a while), I am now on a journey of “self-learning music composing”!

Hi, I’m ArieNova12, and I’m making music!

At this moment, I’m working on the BGMs for a farm game, BeQuest. I already made the “Title” track: “BeQuest - A New Beginning”, now all I need is a soundtrack collection. :)

Since the mood is relaxing, chilled-out and happy farming, Flower Town is one of my reference sources. Watched the video walkthrough hereFlower Town seems really cute, even though it’s about planting, it doesn’t seems boring at all. Their music gives a feeling of happiness, hope, brightening and living. I got the soundtrack here. There are 34 tracks in total.

StreetPass Princeton made a series of Flower Town walkthroughs. The videos are cam recorded, but the audio wasn’t bad at all, I had no problem  to hear the sound from his 3DS. The person was actually quite funny, and his voice was clear and easy to listen to.

The playlist of Flower Town soundtrack can be found at SpongeFreakDX's channel. It also has the most complete soundtracks of NintendoLand. I was actually learned about Flower Town from his channel.

Back to work.

Oy, Lexxy is so good!  I miss these faces.  T___T

When people work together on such a large collaborative project, there’s a lot of  emotional aftermath; the exhilaration of having participated in something bigger than you, pride in the part you played, worry over the mistakes you made, relief that you can finally get some rest, and loneliness for the friends you left.
However the editing portrays us in the end, we all came out of this with valuable new knowledge and incredible new friendships. I can’t begin to express how glad I am to have met everyone on this show. I can’t even write about it without getting misty eyed! Or maybe that’s an understatement and I cried actual tears, but I’m a big fat baby and that’s how I roll.
Now go watch me embarrass myself thoroughly in the premier episode!
